Tired of always feeling hungry? Make this simple diet switch
When patients come to me to lose weight, there’s usually an underlying problem that has them packing on the pounds.
Some eat when they’re bored or nervous. Others are just spending too much time parked on the couch.
But one complaint I hear a lot is, “Doc, I’m just hungry all the time.”
And if that sounds like you… if you’re always reaching for the second helping or raiding the snack cabinet shortly after dinner… there’s one easy diet change that could stop your cravings and help you shed weight.
Just load up on protein.
Nutrition researchers from Purdue University have confirmed that diets high in protein actually make you feel fuller, quicker – which, in turn, makes you eat less.
That’s because protein releases a hormone that makes you feel more satisfied, proving that you don’t need to eat MORE to feel full — you just need to eat the right stuff.
I’m not normally one for giving myself a big pat on the back. But I’ve been telling my patients for years that the protein-rich Paleo diet is the answer for losing weight and avoiding everything from heart disease to diabetes.
The Paleo diet is made up primarily of fresh meats and veggies – and it limits carbs and cuts out processed foods completely. It’s sometimes called the caveman diet because if a caveman couldn’t eat it, you shouldn’t either.
We all know that diet alone is not a magic bullet to physical fitness, but this study shows that it’s a great first step.
It takes some commitment to follow the Paleo diet. But the good news is that there are so many cookbooks on the market (and recipes online) that you’ll never get bored.
And, if you’re like a lot of my patients, the Paleo diet won’t just help you control your hunger – it’ll help you better manage your waistline, too.
