When you’ve got cancer… and you know those malignant cells are growing inside of you… it’s pretty tough to relax.
It’s hard to think of ANYTHING other than getting them out!
So, you might go with the “scorched earth” approach — chemo, radiation, and surgery — but the “cure” can sometimes be just as bad as the cancer.
Chemo can wreck your immune system… lead to complications like cardiovascular disease and diabetes… and even make it more likely your cancer will SPREAD to other spots in your body.
And that’s ALL kinds of awful.
But according to a new study, there’s something safe and natural that may help you triumph against those tumors — and you might even be using it right now to relieve your winter sniffles.
I’m talking about N-Acetyl cysteine (NAC). It’s an amino acid that’s commonly used as an over-the-counter decongestant for colds… and it might also STARVE cancer cells and stop them from spreading.
In the study out of the UK, a small group of breast cancer patients who were awaiting surgery were given the maximum daily dose of NAC — both orally and intravenously — for three weeks.
By the end of the study, biopsies of the participants’ cancerous tissue showed that NAC caused a protein called “MCT4” to plummet by a whopping 80 percent.
What does a drop in MCT4 mean?
Well, MCT4 is known to help cancer cells grow like gangbusters. It delivers energy to them from neighboring healthy cells — and high levels of MCT4 in tumors have been linked to aggressive cancers and low survival rates.
That means that by driving down MCT4 levels, NAC can help STARVE cancer cells of what they need to grow!
The theory is that NAC’s antioxidant properties can reduce oxidative stress in tumor “stroma,” which is a cell compartment involved in the spread of cancer, thereby generating less fuel for MCT4 to deliver to cancer cells.
And we know from previous studies that NAC also boosts your body’s levels of glutathione, a.k.a. the “master” antioxidant, a potent cancer-fighter.
I even recommend NAC in my own practice to help patients with conditions as varied as lung fibrosis, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), MS, and liver disease — because it’s so effective at upping glutathione levels and protecting healthy cells from harm.
Of course, more research is needed before we know the best way to use NAC as a treatment for tumors.
But it’s generally safe even at high dosages, and serious side effects are very rare.
Talk to a doc well-versed in integrative medicine about how to incorporate NAC into your treatment regimen.
You can find it in supplement form in many health food stores and online.
And if you’re looking for more ways to fight cancer naturally, studies have shown that intravenous vitamin C is also a powerful weapon against this scourge.
