These days, diabetes is so common — and so often treated with drugs — that getting diagnosed with it can seem like no big deal.
You’ve got high blood sugar… you need to control it… there’s a pill for that… end of story.
But dealing with diabetes is rarely that simple.
The longer you live with it, the more likely it is that you’ll suffer excruciating complications, from nerve pain to blindness — EVEN if you’re on meds.
That’s why you don’t want to drug your diabetes into “neutral.” You want to put it in REVERSE!
And according to a new study, there’s a natural way to do that — because getting a daily dose of essential vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids can put diabetes permanently in the rearview mirror.
In the study out of Canada, about 1,000 folks who were either at high risk of diabetes or already had it took one of two daily supplement regimens: either vitamin D drops alone or vitamin D drops along with the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA (found in fatty fish like salmon and mackerel) AND a multivitamin.
Now, this wasn’t just any multivitamin. In addition to all the usual suspects, it also contained plant-based nutrients like lutein (found in leafy greens), lycopene (found in tomatoes), resveratrol (found in red grapes), and even green tea.
It was like a healthy meal in a capsule!
After one year, it turned out that — among those who already had diabetes — vitamin D alone was enough to help reverse the disease in 8 percent of those taking it.
Even better, nearly HALF of those on the vitamin/omega-3 regimen put diabetes behind them!
They COMPLETELY snuffed it out without changing their diets… losing weight… or even exercising more. They simply got the nutrients their bodies needed!
Now, we know from previous studies that getting enough vitamin D is essential for blood sugar control… and these results suggest that D is even more powerful when combined with other nutrients.
Yet because the multivitamin contained so many different ones, it’s tough to tease apart how much each contributed to the outcome.
But we do know that anything that reduces inflammation and oxidative stress — including omega-3s, resveratrol, and lutein — can protect your pancreas from damage.
So, if you want to dodge diabetes… or send it packing… a good place to start is a diet loaded with essential vitamins and minerals like the Paleo diet, which emphasizes fresh, nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables, omega-3-rich fish, meats, nuts, and seeds.
And since it can be harder for your body to absorb nutrients from your food as you age, a good multivitamin that contains vitamin D, along with fish oil supplements, can keep you covered.
Of course, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure — so, the best thing to do is to lower your risk of diabetes in the first place. And as I shared with you this morning, that’s not just a matter of avoiding sugar… but also reducing your toxic load.
