The 24-hour news cycle… our cell phones beeping at us all day… health worries… family problems.
These were SUPPOSED to be our “golden years” – but it feels like we have more to deal with than ever before.
It’s no wonder that so many of my patients come to me with the same complaint.
“Physically, I feel fine,” they say. “But my brain is just WORN-OUT.”
We’ve always been told that this “mental fatigue” is just a normal part of aging.
But that’s just not true.
Because I’m going to show you how easy it can be to give your brain a MAJOR boost – and how you can feel alert and sharp all day long.
Mental fatigue can usually be traced back to stress – both physical and emotional.
And we all have plenty of stress, right?
When our brains sense something stressful, hormones pour out from a part of the brain called the pituitary gland.
Those hormones travel to the adrenal glands – which release the well-known stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline/epinephrine).
It’s those adrenal hormones which raise your blood pressure, make you feel alert, give you a burst of energy, and sharpen your mind.
This stress system works great for sudden and short-term threats, but wasn’t meant to be switched on for extended periods of time.
The thing is, in today’s modern world we’re constantly barraged with sources of stress: those traffic jams, bad news headlines, and health worries.
Mental fatigue is caused by prolonged periods of anxieties placed upon our brains. And the impact is well known.
The more stress: the less our brains function.
Those stress hormones also not good for our long-term health: they increase inflammation, oxidation, wrinkles, and aging in general.
But there is a solution (besides living in a cave in the middle of nowhere).
There is a group of herbs that is well known for calming your stress response and helping to keep your brain sharp.
The stress-removing herbs are called adaptogens (they help your body adapt to stress).
The most powerful adaptogen is ashwagandha.
In a recent clinical trial, ashwagandha extract was found to relieve the fatigue, tension, and exhaustion which comes from everyday stress.
Not only that, the root extract also improved participants’ ability to concentrate and remain alert.
Other great adaptogens include rhodiola, eleutherococcus, and holy basil.
Feeling overwhelmed is a part of modern life, but that doesn’t mean you have to live with it.
These adaptogens can be the secret to helping you feel calm, focused, and mentally alert.
