As we age, those “brain hiccups” start adding up… it can feel like your brain has taken a permanent spring vacation.
And – much like the kids at home right now thanks to coronavirus closures – that’s one “vacation” you NEVER wanted to take…
For seniors who feel like they constantly have to retrace their steps to find missing items… or who find themselves forgetting what day or time it is…
You’ll want to take a look a new study.
It shows that just a handful of one, crunchy snack may be the SECRET to reclaiming your brain!
Crunch into this “brain food”
If you’re a longtime reader of my Health e-Tips, you know I have sung the praises of walnuts many a time.
Previous studies have found, these crunchy nuts can:
- Reduce cancer risk
- Lower diabetes risk
- Reduce cardiovascular risk
- Decrease inflammation
- Promote a healthy gut
And now, new research published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition finds eating walnuts every day can also guard your brain.
Researchers followed 640 participants for two years and found those who were the MOST at risk of cognitive decline got the BIGGEST benefits from eating walnuts daily.
You see, walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenols – which have been proven to offset inflammation and oxidative stress.
And that’s GREAT news – because we know BOTH these conditions are major contributors of Alzheimer’s.
So, since your independence depends on healthy brain function, crack open some nuts – or have a snack bag ready to eat.
They’re great on their own, or you can toss a handful in your Greek yogurt, veggie salads, or savory meat dishes.
Just make sure to stay away from sugar bombs like candied walnuts or walnut chocolate chip cookies.
