There must be something “in the air” — because lately, there’s been a bumper crop of research on the effects of air pollution.

Unfortunately, none of it’s been good news.

In fact, a new study published in the journal JAMA Neurology finds people exposed to dirty air are 1.5 times more prone to Parkinson’s.

For their research, scientists tracked almost 80,000 people in Korea for nearly a decade.

And they found, people living in areas with the highest nitrogen dioxide exposure had a 41 percent higher risk of being diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

Nitrogen dioxide is an air contaminant produced mainly by burning fossil fuels in cars and power plants.

The toxic particle has been previously found to travel through the bloodstream into the brain, and cause inflammation and oxidative stress after exposure.

Unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot you can do about air pollution.

But you should always stay as far away as possible from “congested” streets! Choose to walk or do outdoor activities in green spaces removed from traffic.

And if you live close to gridlocked roads, protect yourself indoors by investing in a quality air purifier with a HEPA filter.

Another option is to up your B vitamins — found in foods like liver, chicken, nuts, fish, and eggs or in B-complex supplements.

Previous research has shown B vitamins can offset the effects of air pollution.
