Antidepressants NOT working? Here’s why

They call them “happy pills” …

But I prefer ANGRY pills – because that’s how I feel just THINKING about how antidepressants are dished out to folks who need real help.

And it’s not just because the meds rarely work (which is reason enough, if you ask me!).

But then there are the side effects. The downright MISERABLE side effects.

And, as you’ll see in a moment, they can do more to wreck your life than the depression ever will.

A major new study confirms that the drugs DO NOT WORK in many cases – and that means it’s high time for a new approach to depression.

Fortunately, I’ve already got one!

The real take on antidepressants

The new analysis finds the drugs are way overused, including in cases where they’re unlikely to work (which is most of the time).

The University College London team finds “considerable uncertainty about the benefits” of the medication compared to a placebo and even LESS evidence for long-term use.

Bad? Sure that’s bad. I mean how much worse could it be for drug than NOT working???

Except it does get worse…

Because there are those side effects I mentioned, and the study finds a much higher chance of facing them than most people realize. That includes awful stuff like emotional numbness, sexual problems, mental fogginess and more.

And if you get wise to the meds…

Once you realize they’re not really working…

If you try to QUIT them as a result (with the help of your doctor)…

There’s another nasty surprise in store: withdrawal symptoms including anxiety, sleep problems, appetite issues and more.

All this, and I haven’t even gotten to what REALLY ticks me off about these meds, and that’s the fact that this isn’t the first or only study of its kind.

There are dozens of reports, just like this one.

Anyone in medicine with a pulse has seen them.

Yet the meds are STILL pushed as the first line of treatment on patients with depression, with close to 40 million Americans gobbling these worthless pills every day,

There’s NO EXCUSE for it!

One study a few years ago looked at how SSRI drugs ranked on a 52-point scale measuring depression symptoms.

Most experts agree you need a bare minimum of a three-point improvement for the drug’s effects to be considered significant… and 7 points or more to be considered clinically important.

The drugs “improved” depression by just 2 measly points.

NOT significant.

NOT important.

The new analysis doesn’t say the drugs should never be used. But it does say they should be reserved for short periods in the most serious cases.

I’ve never had to use them in my own practice, because I know of multiple other options that are much more effective.

Here are three of the best:

  • Exercise: Even a 20-30 minute walk can help.
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy: This form of psychotherapy can be very effective for depression (pandemic bonus: it can be done remotely).
  • Curcumin: This natural supplement is as about as effective as fluoxetine (Prozac), but without the side effects.

And for more help, talk to a physician who practices integrative or functional medicine about other natural options including high-dose fish oil, 5-htp, SAMe, CBD and B vitamins, especially methylated B12.
