Of course, many of us are guilty of occasionally breathing fire – particularly when we wake up in the morning.

But if you notice that people frequently back away when you speak…

Or if someone hints that your breath is less than… ahem, minty fresh…

It’s time to break out the heavy artillery to defeat that bad breath – after you get over your embarrassment, that is.

Friend, a couple of breath mints won’t cut it… but new research found something else that just might.

And this long-lasting solution is as close as your local supermarket – or may already be in your refrigerator.

Spoon Away Halitosis

The official name for bad breath is halitosis…

But having a fancy name doesn’t make the condition any more pleasant.

It’s typically caused by an unfortunate trifecta of mouth bacteria, food debris, and poor dental hygiene, which form foul-smelling volatile sulphuric compounds.

And when popular “remedies” like gum, breath mints, and mouthwash don’t work, some folks even try tooth scaling or tongue scraping.

Unfortunately, those are all just temporary coverups… and because they DON’T target the root cause of bad breath, it keeps coming back.

But new research reveals something that could chase away this embarrassing problem – and KEEP it away. And it’s tasty and nutritious, to boot.

What is it?

Yogurt… along with other fermented foods, like sauerkraut, sourdough bread, and miso soup.

In a meta-analysis of seven studies on bad breath, researchers found that fermented foods contain probiotic bacteria that can put the brakes on bad breath.

Those probiotics include Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus reuteri, Streptococcus salivarius, and Weissella cibaria.

The studies focused on several key causes of halitosis, including volatile sulphuric compound levels and OLP scores, which measure breath odor at various distances.

The data shows that subjects who took probiotics saw their OLP scores PLUNGE significantly, compared to the control groups. That means that bad breath was no longer BAD.

Even better, those results remained consistent, no matter how long the studies lasted.

Plus, the subjects’ volatile sulphuric compound levels DIPPED significantly – another indicator of sweeter-smelling breath. But those results were not as long-lasting.

The researchers believe probiotics keep things fresh by preventing mouth bacteria from breaking down food particles, which “curbs the production of smelly by-products.”

Bacteria to the Rescue

Friend, more research on probiotics’ effects on halitosis is needed – especially because this meta-analysis found that OTHER key causes of foul breath, like tongue coating and plaque levels, were NOT affected.

But I recommend upping your intake of fermented foods – and the probiotics they contain – for MANY reasons.

And they just may end up freshening your breath as well!

While probiotics are found in yogurt and other fermented foods, I recommend a supplement to make sure you get adequate levels.
