French Fries REDUCE Blood Pressure?

Do you want fries with that?

According to the mainstream, your answer should be a resounding “YES!”

They’re claiming that fries – and potatoes in general – have been getting a bum rap.

They’ve been touting the results of a recent study that produced some interesting results…

And claiming that spuds are not only healthy

They can actually control blood pressure (BP), to boot.

Of course, MILLIONS of Americans would LOVE it if those claims are true…

But… are they?

Potatoes… as a health food???

If ONLY.

Friend, if you want proof that’s BUNK, consider that potatoes comprise roughly 20 percent of Americans’ vegetable intake – working out to nearly 30 pounds of taters each year.

So if this study were TRUE, we’d have the BEST blood pressure on the planet…

And that’s simply NOT the case.

They ARE right about one thing, though… potatoes DO contain a mineral that can help control BP.

I’m talking about potassium.

According to study researchers, there’s something very special about getting it from spuds… and not just because they’re a major fan favorite.

See, they claim that potassium is more effective when it comes from a potato and not a pill. (Hmm…)

Study participants were given either baked or boiled potatoes, baked French fries, or a potassium supplement.

Over the short term, baked or boiled potatoes reduced sodium retention better than the potassium supplement.

They also reduced systolic BP (the top number) by 6 points, compared to 4 points for the potassium supplement.

As for the French fries, they just didn’t cut it.

But that didn’t stop researchers from SPINNING that fact into a supposed “benefit” – that fries had no adverse effect on blood pressure or blood vessel function.

Furthermore, over the long haul, there were NO significant differences between ANY of the groups – although researchers claim potatoes’ benefits ”approached” significance.

Seriously?

Well, it actually ALL makes sense when you read the fine print.

Turns out, the study was funded by the Alliance for Potato Research and Education.

Spuds are DUDS

Friend, not only is this study a bit, um, biased…

It FAILS to mention some VERY key points.

Like previous research that found exactly the OPPOSITE.

In fact, in a meta-analysis of over 187,000 men and women, eating baked potatoes four times per week boosted BP by 11 percent. And frying those potatoes spiked it by 17 percent.

And NO study can change the fact that when it comes to empty starches, potatoes are some of the EMPTIEST.

They’re notorious for causing blood sugar to surge – especially, if you have diabetes. Not to mention, a steady potato habit can put you on the fast track to the disease.

As for potassium, the new study DOES get it right… but once again, some key information was left out.

See, optimal BP control requires a balance of FOUR key electrolytes – potassium, magnesium, calcium, and sodium.

For most folks, that means boosting the first three with supplements… and taking it a little easier on the last one.

NO spuds required.
