For a month, participants gently applied castor oil morning and evening along their upper and lower lids using clean fingertips.

Researchers then assessed their symptoms before and after using questionnaires and clinical eye exams.

Lasting Relief Without Side Effects

Amazingly, month-long castor oil treatment provided significant improvement in multiple areas:

  • Decreased eyelid redness and swelling
  • Less eyelash debris and crusting
  • Improved thickness and swelling of eyelid rims
  • Overall better dry eye discomfort and symptoms

Participants also reported easier eye makeup removal and no vision changes or other adverse effects.

The doctors involved feel encouraged that castor oil could give longer-lasting dry eye relief than current options, without side effects or the need for a prescription.

And castor oil also boasts antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory benefits to help tackle blepharitis at its roots.

DIY Dry Eye Relief

While researchers dig deeper into castor oil for chronic dry eye, you can try it yourself easily and affordably today.

Always consult your eye doctor first to diagnose the cause of any irritation. But if blepharitis is contributing to discomfort, here’s how to tap castor oil at home:

Start by purchasing a small bottle of cold-pressed castor oil, found in health food stores or online. Before nightly bedtime face cleansing, dip a clean cotton swab or fingertips in the oil and gently smooth over eyelids and lashes. Leave overnight.

Repeat the next morning if desired. Monitor for any reactions, but most people find castor oil soothing.
