Here’s the story. A husband and wife research team at the University of Rochester has a laboratory full of different species of rodents. It’s like Noah’s Ark for rats.

But this research team uncovered a baffling “problem” — no matter what they tried, they couldn’t give the naked mole rat cancer. All the same tricks and injections that worked with other rodents just bounced off these hairless rats like they were wearing a powerful cancer shield! They were completely cancer-proof!

Now here’s where the story gets exciting. These University of Rochester researchers think they’ve discovered the secret behind the naked mole rat’s immunity to cancer — and they think they may be able to use that secret to one day to make sure you and your loved ones NEVER develop this deadly disease.

It turns out these ridiculously resilient rats have cells loaded with a chain-shaped molecule called hyaluronan that looks like it could play an important role in preventing the development and spread of cancer. And get this — mole rats have a much more powerful form of hyaluronan than anything coursing through our bodies.

It was only when researchers killed off the hyaluronan in the naked mole rat cells that they dropped their cancer shield and started developing tumors like normal rodents.

There’s still plenty more research to be done, but scientists believe they may be able to cancer-proof all lab rats and, eventually, humans, too. We may be just a few short years from a powerful breakthrough that will banish cancer from our cells for good!
