Boring Side Dish Helps SIDESTEP Dementia
When it comes to ho-hum side dishes…
Peas and carrots probably take the um, cake.
Friend, does ANYONE like the pale gray stuff that slides out of a can?
After all, it’s the same yucky mush you may remember from childhood.
But even though peas and carrots probably AREN’T on most folks’ veggie hit parade… a new study shows they SHOULD be.
Because this BORING side dish could be part of an EXCITING breakthrough in brain health.
And not only is it easy to JAZZ it up with freshness and flavor…
Eating could be an easy – and tasty! – way to SAVE your memory and BLOCK dementia.
Brain Food
If you’re a regular reader of e-Tips, or my , you know I talk about antioxidants a LOT.
That’s because these potent micronutrients – found in colorful produce and leafy green veggies… help boost your health in multiple ways.
For example, not only can antioxidants help slash blood pressure… and help you win the battle against aging and disease…
The new study found they can protect cognitive function as you age.
The participants included folks age 45 – 90, who were tracked for up to 26 years.
Researchers wanted to see if there was a connection between antioxidant intake… and dementia risk.
And boy, there sure WAS.
Turns out, several antioxidants in particular were especially powerful in helping prevent dementia…
Especially, lutein and zeaxanthin, which are found in – you guessed it – peas and carrots.
Turns out, every increase in standard deviation (essentially, the difference from the average) resulted in a 7 percent drop in dementia risk.
And a little-known compound called beta-cryptoxanthin – found in orange foods like tangerines, apricots, peaches, and yep, carrots – cuts dementia odds by 14 percent with every standard deviation.
A Side of Dementia Prevention
Friend, all three of these antioxidants wear multiple health-boosting hats.
For example, both lutein and zeaxanthin are well known for their vision-enhancing powers…
And beta-cryptoxanthin helps fight another debilitating problem of aging – arthritis.
These antioxidants protect the cells of your body from damage – including your brain cells.
And that can help SAVE your memory, PRESERVE your cognition, and BLOCK the onset of dementia.
Now, back to those “boring” peas and carrots.
Instead of buying the tasteless canned stuff, check your grocery’s freezer aisle for a product that was flash-frozen while still fresh.
Even better, BUY them FRESH, and eat them raw or lightly steamed, to preserve their nutrients.
They’re quite tasty on their own, but if you want an extra flavor boost, jazz them up by adding two “forbidden” ingredients – salt and butter – which are FINE when eaten in moderation.
You can also UP your lutein, zeaxanthin and beta-cryptoxanthin levels by eating a wide range of green, yellow and orange fruits and veggies daily.
And for even more support, try a high-quality antioxidant supplement, or a vision formula built around lutein and zeaxanthin.
But as always, please speak to your doctor before taking any new supplement.
