Taking the fear out of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy one urine test at a time December 1, 2007
If you’re a woman, your average life expectancy is about 80 years old. That means you’re going to spend more than one-third of your life in a postmenopausal state, facing all the adverse health effects associated with reduced levels of the hormones your body made inter-nally before menopause (estrogens, progesterone, DHEA, testosterone, thyroid hormones, melatonin, and others). These effects range from mild but annoying things like increased fatigue and decreased libido to serious threats to your ability to lead a normal daily life osteoporosis, muscle weakness, atherosclerosis, loss of cognitive function, and many more.

The most effective way to get herbal eczema relief right where you need it most November 1, 2007
I know more than a few herbalists who would argue that most people arent using herbs in the most effective way. Black cohosh beats its bad press and reduces breast cancer risk by more than half October 1, 2007
It had been building slowly, but when hormone replacement therapy with Premarin and Prempro received all that bad press a few years ago, suddenly mainstream interest in alternative treatments for menopause symptoms reached an all-time high. But not all the attention was positive. In particular black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa or Actea racemosa), the most widely used herbal therapy for hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms, began receiving its own share of bad press. It was linked to rare cases of liver damage (see the January 2007 issue of Nutrition & Healing for my response to these concerns), but perhaps more important were the concerns that it too, like HRT, might have estrogenic effects in the body and, as a result, increase the risk of breast cancer. This fear was fueled by the results of a dubious study released in 2003 at a conference.

Natural Response – Do bio-identical hormones pose a breast cancer risk? August 1, 2007
Q: Recently, the media has given a great deal of attention to the large drop in the percentage of women having breast cancer, which has been attributed to the large numbers of women no longer taking hormones.
